I’m Engaged! Now what?!

Wedding General Party Tips

So you’ve just gotten engaged, congratulations! Now what do you do? Here are some tips/tricks to finding the best DJ entertainment for you.

Now that you’ve gotten over the excitement of being engaged, it’s time to start planning for that special day. You will need a venue, you will need food, and you will need a photographer to name a few. The most important of course, is your entertainment, because that person or group needs to interact with all of your other vendors (yes, even the caterer) to make sure that every event flows into the next as seamlessly as possible, allowing you the best photo opportunities, and of course the best dance party of your life!

Choosing a DJ can be a daunting task, but we are here to help you wade through all of the choices and offerings so you find exactly what you are looking for. Here are just a few of the questions you should be asking your DJ entertainer before selecting one.

1. Can the company provide referrals from previous clients?

A good DJ company is going to have these referrals readily available for you, and there may even be an opportunity to go to the company’s website to find online reviews or even published surveys from previous clients available online. If a DJ is unable, or unwilling to give you this information, it’s time to exit stage left.

2. How knowledgeable is the DJ in every genre of music?

What we have learned throughout the years, is that being a DJ is so much more than just playing music. The DJ should be knowledgeable about many genres of music, even the ones that are not of personal interest to him or her. We’ve learned that playing the right song at the right time is what makes those lasting memories. We want to make sure that people who love polka leave the party believing that their DJ was born into Polka and lived it his whole life. We want those that love country music to believe that the DJ was born in boots and has been line dancing since toddlerhood. A good way to test out the DJ during an informal conversation is to give a very vague reference to a song, and see if he knows the title and artist. I promise you, a good DJ will be able to figure it out because he knows his stuff!

3. How flexible is the DJ with pricing/offerings and custom show requests?

A good DJ business is going to have multiple options for packages and pricing to fit every budget. If your DJ isn’t willing to work with you, to get you the most that you can get within your budget, it’s time to find someone who will. Of course, it would not be fair to ask the DJ to cut the price in half, and if that happens, you know it was too much to begin with! Usually there is some wiggle room, ask the question and your DJ should be able to work with you to find a compromise that works for both parties. As for custom show requests, take it from us, this is something that a DJ deals with daily. A good DJ will be able to make changes on the fly, and execute flawlessly.

4. Are there examples or pictures of equipment that the DJ can show you?

One of the most frequent questions we get from brides and grooms, is “what equipment do you have?” Lots of mobile DJ’s like to say that they have the proper lights and sounds for the event, but a truly good company will be able to show you, through virtual or physical means what his equipment will look like. A good DJ should have proper lights that will light up the dance floor, a mirror ball with spot lights, and generally enough lighting to make a spectacular light show for the dance floor. In addition, there should be two high power speakers, and redundancy within the equipment in case anything fails (in other words, capability to play multiple types of music-flash drive MP3, MP4, digital computer, and CD to name a few).

5. Decide what you want for your day, and communicate that to your prospective entertainer.

For the People Entertainment has set up a comprehensive online planning form for your ceremony and reception. We set the nights events up according to what you want! You should make sure that your entertainment people are prompt, their equipment should not be gaudy looking, and the personal appearance of your entertainer should match the aim of your event. For the People Entertainment is always on top of the equipment it sends out. Being known for reliability and a great show is only possible because of how well we maintain our gear and when things go wrong we have spares at the venue to seamlessly repair and replace equipment on the fly.
